The focus of Voice is the arts, people and events in the following towns: Arena, Avoca, Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Lone Rock, Mazomanie, Muscoda, Plain, Prairie du Sac, Richland Center, Sauk City, and Spring Green. Pieces that focus on people and/or events outside of this area or those written by people who reside outside of our coverage area will be considered on an individual basis.
Possible topics include but are not limited to:
Local music and musicians, writing, painting, sculpting, glass work, furniture making, architecture, photography, weaving, paper making, education, local sustainable farming and organic products, education, sustainable living, science, history, drama, creative learning, integrated medicine, wellness, and healing arts including massage, acupuncture, spirituality, Reiki and more, local history and geography, sustainable forestry and building, unique people.
We welcome pieces by and about people who live in or work in what we have defined as the River Valley area or about events that are happening in this area. If you are uncertain about whether your piece is in keeping with our guidelines, please feel free to email us. If you are interested in writing a piece for Voice please send a brief query letter with the following:
Theme/subject/goal/purpose
Names and locations of people and/or business mentioned in your piece.
A sample of your writing from other published work (if this is your first piece for Voice)
Name, Address, Phone, Email
Something about you (writing background, interest in the subject, etc.)
Length: Pieces are no longer than 480 words in length. Others will be considered on an individual basis.
Photos: Photos must be submitted in jpeg (minimum 300 dpi and twice display size) or grayscale pdf printed to press quality format.
- We do not offer payment for submissions. We hope to eventually.
- We do not guarantee when or if your piece will be published unless we notify you of such.
- Some issues will have themes that are not yet determined.
- Editing will be done at the publishers’ discretion.
- We are not a political or sports focused publication.
- All pieces will be reviewed and published at the discretion of the publishers.
