SPRING GREEN—Tickets are now available for River Valley Players’ benefit production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” to be performed April 12-14 at American Players Theatre’s Touchstone Theatre in Spring Green. Proceeds from the performances, which are recommended for mature audiences, will go to Hope House of South Central Wisconsin in Baraboo to raise awareness and help stop violence against women and girls.
Based on interviews playwright and activist Ensler conducted with more than 200 women and began performing in 1994, “The Vagina Monologues” has been published in 48 languages and performed in 140 countries. The title is your guide. This is about women, and, yes, one aspect of their anatomy. As a member of the audience, you will find that the monologues are like having a conversation with a friend. And so it continues, each woman in turn brings difficult material to life, whether an uncommon subject or a painful one, and does so with touching humanity.
Directed by Shannon Radel, the monologues will be performed by 17 local women: Cecelia Farran, Maureen “Mo” May Grimm, Amery Harrington, Sabrina Hurtado, Jenn Jensen, Hannah Lee, Jill McDermott, Amy Mills, Mary Preus Olson, Polly Poupore-Craig, Jeanine Radel, Robin Reid, LynnMarie Schwann, Amy Smyth, Jen Snow, Susan Thering and Melinda Van Slyke. Eric Dieckman will provide lighting.
Performances will be staged at 7:30 p.m. April 12-13 and 2:30 p.m. April 14. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at Arcadia Books and the Spring Green General Store in Spring Green; Changez Salon in Plain; at the door before the performances; or by calling (608) 588-6295.
