River Valley gardeners can help the Spring Green, Lone Rock and Arena Community Food Pantries by donating their excess produce this gardening season. The goal is to be able to provide some fresh produce to every pantry family every month of the growing season. Reaching the goal requires the joint efforts of River Valley gardeners, so please consider planting a little extra.

The Community Food Pantries are an important link to food security in the River Valley. Typically, more than 140 families take advantage of the pantries each month. The pantries are well stocked with food from direct donations and from Second Harvest Food Bank. However, good quality, fresh produce is often lacking.

NEEDED: High-quality, fresh produce. Remove excess soil, but generally avoid washing most produce to promote longer shelf life. To make it as easy as possible for the pantries’ distribution volunteers, produce should be wrapped, tied or bagged in quantities roughly the equivalent of supermarket packages. Packaging need not be elaborate. Attaching a simple recipe to more unusual produce is helpful.

WHERE & WHEN: Produce may be dropped off at the pantry sites. Deliveries will be welcomed at the times noted below. Please do not leave any food at the pantries at other times:

  • Spring Green Community Church, 151 E. Bossard St., 9-10 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. the third Monday of each month: April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21.
  • Lone Rock School, 222 W. Pearl St., 3:30-4:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month: April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, Aug. 12, Sept. 9, Oct. 14.
  • Arena Village Hall, 345 West St., 9-10 a.m. the first Saturday and 3-4 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month: April 6/10/24, May 4/8/22, June 1/12/26, July 6/10/24, Aug. 3/14/28, Sept. 7/11/25, Oct. 5/9/23.
