Back by popular demand, reprising his role from 2009, Sam Murn returns to Alley Stage in Mineral Point as Crumpet, the Macy’s Holiday Elf. In “The Santaland Diaries,” David Sedaris shares memories of his experiences working as an elf at Macy’s during the holiday season.
Not intended for young audiences, “The Santaland Diaries” showcases Sedaris’ sardonic humor with stories that will not disappoint. The New York Times calls it “a delightfully thorny account of working as a Yuletide elf at Macy’s. Priceless observations, both outrageous and subtle. Destined to hold a place in the annals of American humor writing.”
Showing in the intimate Cabinet Shop at Shake Rag Alley, “The Santaland Diaries” is a fundraiser for Alley Stage and Shake Rag Alley. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 and Nov. 30 and 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Dec. 1. The Dec. 1 shows coincide with Mineral Point’s annual Candlelight Shopping event, where local shops and galleries stay open until 9 p.m.
General admission is $15. Attendees in “ugly holiday attire” will be admitted for $10 and will be entered in a drawing for a pair of 2013 Alley Stage season tickets. Purchase tickets online at www.shakeragalley.com, or call the office at (608) 987-3292. Tickets may be available at the door. The box office will open one half hour prior to show time.
